Bad weather

I just saw where the Spring Creek Academy is closed. Guess that means Folks from up north (pretty much anything north of the Tonkowa OK) won't be able to learn to eat bbq? Ok, I know it's weak but I'm bored!

P.S. an after thought. .. in defense of my "up north" friends. .. they could teach most of the drivers here a thing or two about driving in this weather.

Labor Day by Kerby Anderson

Today is Labor Day. Although this day was set aside to honor trade and labor organizations, I believe it is a day when Christians can also consider how they view work and labor. The Bible has quite a bit to say about how we are to view work, and so I devote part of a chapter in my most recent book to a biblical view of work.

    First, we are to work unto the Lord in our labors. Colossians 3:23 says “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.” We may have an earthly master (or boss) but ultimately we are working for our heavenly Master.

    Second, work is valuable. Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 to: “Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you, so that you will behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need.” He also warns in 2 Thessalonians 3:10 that “if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.”

    The Proverbs talk about the importance and benefits of work. Proverbs 12:11 says, “He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who pursues worthless things lacks sense.” Proverbs 13:4 says, “The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, But the soul of the diligent is made fat.” And Proverbs 14:23 says, “In all labor there is profit, But mere talk leads only to poverty.”

    The Greeks and Romans looked upon manual work as a menial task that was only for slaves (or else for people of lower class). The biblical view of work changed that ancient view because work and labor were combined with the idea of vocation and calling.

    These ideas were reinforced in the Middle Ages through the guild movement and even expanded during the Reformation. Martin Luther, for example, taught that all work can be done for the glory of God. John Calvin taught that all should work because they were to serve as God’s instruments on earth. This led to what today is called the Protestant work ethic.

    Let’s use this Labor Day to teach and reinforce biblical ideas of work.

Origin of the Declaration by Kerby Anderson

Today is the 4th of July, and I thought I would take a moment to talk about the origin of the ideas in the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson said that many of the ideas in the Declaration came from John Locke. Jefferson also gave credit to the writer Algernon Sidney, who in turn cites most prominently Aristotle, Plato, Roman republican writers, and the Old Testament.

Legal scholar Gary Amos argues that Locke’s Two Treatises on Government is simply Samuel Rutherford’s Lex Rex in a popularized form. Amos says in his book Defending the Declaration: “that the ‘law of nature’ is God’s general revelation of law in creation, which God also supernaturally writes on the hearts of men.”

This foundation helps explain the tempered nature of the American Revolution. The Declaration of Independence was a bold document, but not a radical one. The colonists did not break with England for “light and transient causes.” They were mindful that Romans 13 says they should be “in subjection to the governing authorities” which “are established by God.” Yet when they suffered from a “long train of abuses and usurpation's,” they argued that “it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute a new government.”

Jefferson also drew from George Mason’s Declaration of Rights (published on June 6, 1776). The first paragraph states that “all men are born equally free and independent and have certain inherent natural Rights; among which are the Enjoyment of Life and Liberty, with the Means of Acquiring and possessing property, and pursuing and obtaining Happiness and Safety.”

The Declaration of Independence is more than 200 years old. It was a monumental work at the time, and even today its words ring with truth and inspire new generations.

Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,  so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

National Day of Prayer

Perhaps one of the most powerful calls to prayer came from President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. In 1863, he issued a proclamation for a day of "humiliation, fasting and prayer." Here is some of that proclamation:

"We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us."

From a personal thought...

As I was finalizing my blog regarding "He is Risen", I thought of what is to me a most important Scripture for this day, one that many may not attribute to this Resurrection Sunday. 

It is Philippians 3:7-14. Of course when Paul wrote this he was looking back at the power of not only the Cross of death but also the power of the Resurrection, the ultimate defeat of the "last enemy"...death. 

But verse 8 sums it all up for me, the more important, above all the rest, the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord...when we've made that quality commitment we can then look at the Cross and Resurrection in a different light and begin to see the TOTAL price that was paid for us! Simple, when we draw near to God His promise is He will draw near to us!

1 Corinthian 1:18 For the Word of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved & delivered, it is the Power of God!

Of all his music my favorite is the Four Seasons, and out of those my two favorites...spring and then summer.

Some more good news for Texans

TEXAS HOTSPOT FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH...
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (RCLCO) – Seven Texas metros are on RCLCO's list of regional hotspots for economic growth.

Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos, Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington and Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown were included on the list of large U.S. metros, while Tyler, Longview, Midland and Texarkana were on the list of small metros.

In addition, half the cities on RCLCO's list of metros where employment is back to peak levels are in Texas: DFW, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso and Corpus Christi.

RCLCO Managing Director Paige Mueller said "diversified employment bases, including energy and technology sectors, are benefiting the Texas economy as are low cost of doing business, warm climate, and proximity to trade routes."

Top ten turning 60 stuff!

Shared these with the group yesterday and several asked that I post so sending out in my blog...

Not all are true yet...whatever!

Top 10 truths, thoughts, questions, concerns & ideas I’ve had re. turning 60…

10     My saying has been…it’s not the age, it’s the miles…now…it’s the miles…and the age!

9         I wonder how much more cost for a walker w/wheels…& some of those nice tennis ball covers?

8         Really, $4,500 for one tooth? I can remember when they were much, much less!

7         No, I don’t wear my wranglers as tight as I used to…getting in those extra heavy starched jeans was like running a 5K run just to get the damn things on! Oh, and make that “medium starch” please!

6         Some people take something to read when they have to go #2…I now take reading material while standing for #1

5         I feel Moses & I now have even more in common than just ssssttturing

4         The statement…older than dirt just isn’t as funny as I used to think it was & the term “spring chicken” is now…”fall rooster”

3         I’ve never given being “un-friended” from someone on Facebook any real thought or concern, but did you have to do it on my birthday? Guess turning 60 was just too much for em’

2         And now, if someone says to you, I don’t think this is very funny or, Young’s really a dork…just look at the person and say, the Dude is 60, what do you expect!

1         Even at 60, I can still hear Cara saying…Dad, that girl is way too young!

Doing studies this AM I was reading a book given me for an early birthday present named, " Now your 60!...Fun facts for your generation".

 

Listed in the early teenage years of music in our era it discusses the "revolutionary music" which was both reflected and fueled by the times we were in and that perhaps Bob Dylan said it best and actually one of my favorite songs the Byrds did along with their song-"my back pages":

"Come gather round people wherever you roam
and admit that the waters around you have grown
and accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin'
then  you better start swimmin'
or you'll sink like a stone...
For the times they are a-changin'

The world we live in there are changes coming that will not be good but In the Lord these times of change will bring times of renewing, refreshing and strength. But only for those who dwell in the safety, security and protection of Him who has called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light.

Messianic Prophecy

Commentary ThumbnailOn the day before Christmas, I thought it would be appropriate to reflect on the coming of the Messiah. The Old Testament contains hundreds of prophecies that give specific detail about the “anointed one” who is the Messiah. The prophets proclaimed that He would come to save the people.

The Bible is unique in many ways, especially when it comes to fulfilled prophecy. At the time when it was written, 27 percent (1800 verses) of the Bible was prophetic. Large portions of those prophecies have been fulfilled, and that is a powerful argument for the inspiration of the Bible.

What is the probability that these Messianic prophecies could be fulfilled in the life of one person by chance? Peter Stoner, in his book Science Speaks, calculated the probability of just eight Messianic prophecies being fulfilled by chance. These included the prophecy in Micah 5:2 that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Another was Malachi 3:1 that predicted that a messenger would prepare the way for the Messiah. Four of the prophecies were from Zechariah. They predicted that the Messiah would be betrayed: by a friend, for 30 pieces of silver, and it would be used to buy a potter’s field. Another prophecy said that the Messiah would die by being pierced (crucified).

Multiplying all of these probabilities together, Peter Stoner produced a number of 10 to the 28th power. He then divided this number by the number of people who have lived since the time of the prophecies and came up with a number of 10 to the 17th power. In other words, the chance that just eight prophecies could be fulfilled by chance is one in one hundred  quadrillion. In order to illustrate this, he says imagine we could fill the state of Texas with silver dollars two feet deep. Put a red mark on one and then ask a blindfolded person to travel anywhere in the state. The chance that he would pick up the marked silver dollar on the first try would be one in one hundred quadrillion.

The conclusion is simple. Jesus is indeed the Messiah predicted by the prophets. I’m Kerby Anderson, and that’s my point of view.

This is a small excerpt from a message the Lord gave me to bring forth at Church Sunday, January 6th, 2013...

The most secret place…being prepared for the days ahead

Perfect Love, Perfect Peace, Perfect Joy can only come about by perfect obedience. The positioning of ourselves in perfect alignment with the Father through Jesus. These attributes and position in Jesus are not some nice…would like to attain someday. No, they are and will be essential to and for our complete salvation and deliverance in the coming days (see Hebrews 9:28). And not just us but the protection and safety of those around us and under our tree of faith.  Just as it was essential for Jesus to be made like his brethren in every respect, (see Hebrews 2:17), so it is essential that we be made like Him in every respect. Jesus, the author & finisher of our faith, the pioneer of our faith and salvation.

A good way to start the New year...

37;Who is there who speaks and it comes to passUnless the Lord has commanded it?38;Is it not from the mouth of the Most High That both good and ill go forth ?39;Why should any living mortal, or any man, Offer complaint in view of his sins?40;Let us examine and probe our ways, And let us return to the LORD.41;We lift up our heart and hands Toward God in heaven ;

V. 40 with 2 Chronicles 7:14 and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Per Deuteronomy 30:15,19  we have the power of choice each and every day to choose...life or death...blessing or curse...good or evil!
I love the last part of v. 19 God says...So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants.
