Very powerful question for America

As we come to the end of the year and look back at the many news items, it worth asking some important questions. One question that Joel Rosenberg has been asking is this: Is America in a Jonah moment or a Nahum moment? Let me explain.

When Jonah preached to the city of Ninevah (the capital of the Assyrian empire), they repented. The king arose from his throne, removed his robe, and covered himself in sackcloth and sat in ashes (Jonah 3:6). He then sent out a decree to the people, and God spared the city from the impending disaster (Jonah 3:10).

That generation of Ninevites listened and turned from their sins toward the Lord. Following generations did the same until 150 years later when another generation of Ninevites refused to listen to the Word of God.

Nahum then pronounces a woe upon Nineveh. “Woe to the bloody city, all full of lies and plunder—no end to the prey! The crack of the whip, and the rumble of the wheel galloping horse and bounding chariot! Horsemen charging, flashing sword and glittering spear, hosts of slain, heaps of corpses dead bodies without end—they stumble over bodies!” This is the vivid description of the destruction that was to come to Nineveh in 612 B.C.

Is America in a Jonah moment? Or are we in a Nahum moment? More than a million abortions are performed unabated. More states have sanctioned same-sex marriage. Politicians in Washington add more than a trillion dollars of national debt every year. We are shocked at the violence in a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado and in an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.

Most of us recognize that if we as a people and a country continue to turn away from God, the problems in our society will grow worse. Are we ready to repent, or will we be like the people Paul talked about who were “holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power” (2 Timothy 3:5).

Joel Rosenberg asks a good question. I suspect that what happens next year will give us an answer. I’m Kerby Anderson, and that’s my point of view.

Happy birthday Ludwig! 1770-1827

Beethoven was probably born on December 16th, 1770. He was baptized on December 17th, 1770. Children at the time were usually baptized the day after their birth. We also know that Beethoven himself celebrated his birthday on December 16th.

The last ten years of his life he was totally deaf.

Beethoven came to terms with his deafness in a dynamic, constructive way. In a letter to a physician friend, written five months after a despairing letter, it becomes clear that Beethoven, as always, stubborn, unyielding and struggling against destiny, saw his deafness as a challenge to be fought and overcome:

Free me of only half this affliction and I shall be a complete,
mature man. You must think of me as being as happy as it is
possible to be on this earth - not unhappy. No! I cannot endure
it. I will seize Fate by the throat. It will not wholly conquer
me! Oh, how beautiful it is to live - and live a thousand times over!

One of my favorites-Symphony #9

Praying

This Scripture has really Ministered to me in light of the tragedy in Newtown...

2 Cor. 1:3, 4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Good info for Arlington commuters...

UP Rail Project to Cause Significant Crossing Closures in January

Arlington drivers will be dealing with unprecedented detours and road closures in January, when a Union Pacific track renewal project moves eastward from Fort Worth to Dallas. It is a major railway improvement which is going to require the simultaneous closure of four to five railroad crossings in Arlington for several days at a time.  The project is expected to begin in Fort Worth on January 1 and UP estimates the track renewal project should reach Arlington around January 16 and last roughly eight days.

The project, called TRT 909 is replacing rail and installing concrete ties on a 13 mile stretch of rail which runs parallel to Division.  It will move across the city at rate of about two miles per day, in four phases, greatly impacting north and southbound traffic.

Initially, it will require the closure of the following crossings for approximately four to five daysBowen Road, Davis Street, Cooper Street, Center Street and Mesquite Street.  The railroad crossings will remain closed 24 hours a day during all phases of the track renewal.

Arlington public safety officials are working to create detours to lessen the impact on emergency services but say the closures could have a significant impact.

For the latest information on the UP track renewal project and updated maps of the roadways as they are closed, follow the City of Arlington on Twitter @CityOfArlington or sign up for email updates at MyArlingtonTx.com

Peace and contentment

These Scriptures have really helped me because peace and contentment has many times seemed very fleeting...

Because His Grace is sufficient for me, (2 Corinthians 12:9,) I can be content in whatever situation I am in, (Philippines 4:11.) And 1 Timothy 6:6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain.

2 Peter 1:2-4... Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Notice it's through the knowledge of Him...that makes the statement Paul made in Philippines 3:10; "that I may know Him" even more important for us too. Especially in light of the Lord's reply to the foolish, unprepared virgins in Matthew 25!

Was the election fair?

Here is a link to an excellent article regarding the recent election we just had. This is from:
Did Obama Really Win?

Tuesday, November 20, 2012 By: Joseph Farah, World Net Daily

Exclusive: Joseph Farah offers more evidence of skullduggery in vote count

We can stick our head in the sand through indifference, not wanting to believe or just flat stating that it happens no matter who is running but all that will get you is stupidity.

I've found that first and foremost of all people treat the Word of God the same way. Oh they will claim to believe until it upsets their theology or their pocket book!!

Have a blessed Thanksgiving everyone and enjoy and be thankful for your family!

Cook Children's Hospital new program helps feed families!

When a visit to the Emergency Department ends up being an overnight stay at Cook Children’s Medical Center, most parents are not thinking about feeding themselves. While the doctors and nurses take care of the sick or injured child, our staff now has a way to take care of family members as well.
Parent_pantry_picture11100

Through the Parent Pantry, families are presented with a bag of substantial food – microwavable meals, cereal bars and snacks. Social worker, Jan Boland, says “as an employee, these bags help us do our job better. This is a great new service that we now can offer some of our families.” The bags are especially helpful for families who find themselves in the Emergency Department overnight, who are here for long stays or who live far away. Nothing about the bags is intrusive, and everything provided in the bags is donated. To learn more about how you can help stock the Parent Pantry and ensure these bags are always available to families in need, click here.

How long after a foreclosure before you can purchase another home?

If you have experienced a foreclosure, then you know that mortgage lenders can throw major roadblocks on the path to subsequent attempts at homeownership. With the help of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), however, that path is now a lot clearer.

For example, while Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac typically require seven years to elapse between a foreclosure and any subsequent loan, FHA-backed loans can have a much shorter waiting period.

If the borrower can show good credit and the ability to pay, the period could be as short as three years. In addition, because FHA loans require lower downpayments than conventional financing, FHA may be a better option for those borrowers on the road to recovery.

While generally borrowers are not eligible for an FHA-backed mortgage if their previous residence was foreclosed within the previous three years, an exception does exist for homeowners who can document that the foreclosure was a result of circumstances beyond the control of the borrower (like serious illness or death of the wage-earner) and who have re-established good credit.

The Federal Housing Administration was created in 1934 to help the struggling housing market. Essentially, the FHA functions as an insurer for banks, so that banks can lend with less-rigid requirements. The FHA puts measures in place to ensure responsible lending to borrowers likely to be able to repay their loans.

Call or email me if you have any questions/concerns or to get in touch with one of my mortgage lenders to find out if your ready to qualify for a home loan now!

Day after election results...

I really appreciated Kirby Anderson's Point of View commentary earlier today that I also posted on  https://twitter.com/StephenLYoung and facebook. Good encouragement and Scripture for the time!

I had a restless night as I along with many many more was concerned for our Country. When I woke up this morning here are the Scriptures that I woke up meditating upon and I hope, along with Kirby's points, helps if needed. Sure helped me because I sure did need it!

Sometimes it's just plain good and comforting to get back to the firm foundation of God's Word and make sure were standing on the solid rock!

Kerby's Point of View - Close Elections

Very powerful article from Kirby regarding the importance of our vote and that it DOES COUNT!

Close Elections
by Kerby Anderson

Commentary ThumbnailToday is Election Day, and I hope you will take the time to vote if you haven’t already. In the past, many groups circulated articles and e-mails talking about the importance of one vote. In the last few elections, we haven’t needed these reminders because the current elections provided numerous illustrations.

For example, George W. Bush won the 2000 Presidential election by the slimmest of margins. His election essentially was decided by 537 votes in Florida. He won re-election in the 2004 Presidential election again by very slim margins. He won the 20 electoral votes from the state of Ohio with 50.8 percent of the vote.

Over the years, I have collected some stories of elections that resulted in a tie. You can’t get any closer than that. Consider the story of Penny Pullen in Illinois. A number of years ago, it appeared she lost a primary election by 31 votes. However, there were many irregularities in the ballots. Judge Francis Barth concluded that the election was a draw and ordered a coin toss. She lost the election on a coin toss. Later she found out that many members of her church hadn’t bothered to vote in the primary election and could have made a crucial difference.

In 2006, there was an even more interesting story of an electoral tie. William Crawford and Jean Miller both received an identical number of votes in an election in Ohio. William Crawford was especially upset. You might ask why. Well, it turned outthat his two sons failed to vote that day. His son Jim lives across the street from him. His other son Andy is a college student who lives at home with him. Neither took the time to go to the polls.

Would the outcome of these elections be different if a few people in Penny Pullen’s church had bothered to vote or if either of William Crawford’s sons had bothered to vote? I think we all know the answer.

We may not have any votes tomorrow that end in a tie, but you never know. Does one vote count? Just ask Penny Pullen or William Crawford. I’m Kerby Anderson, and that’s my point of view.

Privilege and opportunity

Our Country is at a major crossroads, more dangerous than I imagine any of us really realize.

And please do not be like so many that feel it's a waste of time to vote or that what does my vote matter, both the candidates are no good. Sadly I hear that a lot and even worse, I heard it in Church one day, the statement that this is all we've got to vote for? In a few words that person was making a very bold statement that it just didn't matter. I disagree and I see in God's Word where He does not agree with that either. We've been given a great privilege and opportunity in this great Country of ours, the right to vote and make a stand for what we believe in. So do it or don't complain when it does not turn out like you like it.

2 Timothy 3:16, 17

V. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness ;

V. 17 so that the man of God may be adequateequipped for every good work.

·     The Word says ALL Scripture is inspired and profitable.

Verse 17 goes hand in hand with 1 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamedaccurately handling the word of truth.

Interesting that the original Greek word for accurately & handling  are the same and it means to cut straight, to cut straight ways,  to proceed on straight paths, hold a straight course, equiv. to doing right to make straight and smooth, to handle aright, to teach the truth directly and correctly.

God gives us this power to present His Word but it must be according to His guidance and leadership, not our will but His Will be done!

Look at the Son of God’s confession in John 5:19- Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, "Trulytruly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himselfunless  it is something He sees the Father doing ; forwhatever  the Father doesthese things the Son also does in like manner.

And  John 5:30-"can do nothing  on My own initiative.  As I hear, I judge ; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

Where are we to be? I’m so glad you asked. Jesus stated in John chapter 15 that He is the true vine and we are the branches and apart from Him, we can do nothing! These Scriptures really take on new power and meaning when we correlate them with Jesus’s prayer in John 17, especially verse 21- that they may all be one ; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.

1 John 3:1-3 see how great a love the Father has bestowed on us…
